Leading people to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ

“…if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Elections galvanize the population in America like few other things. In the next six months we will be bombarded by ads, promotions and seemingly endless debates and opinions on all sides. For Christians it appears that we are losing ground on all sides. Or perhaps I should rephrase that. The sad truth is, the culture war is over, and our side lost. An incisive article by the always witty and erudite Dr Carl Trueman posted here, points that out in his own brilliant way.

So, what are we to do? The answer is to be found, as always, in Scripture. We are to keep living and walking in the light of our risen Lord! The truth is, we are first of all citizens of heaven. While we might be justifiably sad at the loss of cultural norms that were grounded in a Christian ethic, we are destined to spend eternity in a perfect place. A renewed heaven and earth where God will make all things new, and until then we are to live as light in a dark world. The greater the darkness the brighter our “light” will be.

This article by a missionary living in Tanzania seemed especially appropriate as I pondered the political landscape today. Remember, this world is not our home, we are just passing through; and while we strive to make it a better place, we also realize that one day we will hear: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”
